Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has commended Ekiti State University (EKSU) for being ranked as the best state university in Nigeria and the 12th overall among 270 universities nationwide, according to the 2025 Times Higher Education ranking.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji congratulated the university's Chancellor, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, for his unwavering support and commitment to the institution's development. He also lauded the Governing Council, led by Prof. Akin Oyebode, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Babatola Ayodele, for their leadership and the dedication of staff and students that culminated in the remarkable achievement.

The governor described the recognition as a testament to the state’s significant investment in education and human capital development. He noted that the university’s leading position among state-owned institutions underscores the positive strides in Ekiti's education sector.

Highlighting his administration's support, Governor Oyebanji mentioned the increase in the university’s monthly subvention from ₦261 million to ₦410 million, improvements in staff welfare, and infrastructure development projects such as the reconstruction of the Ado–Iworoko–Ifaki road. He added that EKSU’s recent connection to the state’s Independent Power Plant (IPP) has resolved the institution's power supply challenges.

As the first alumnus of EKSU to serve as a Visitor to the university, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to supporting teaching, research, and infrastructure upgrades. He urged the management to build on the momentum to sustain its position as the best state university and aim for the top spot among all universities in Nigeria.

Governor Oyebanji expressed optimism that with increased dedication and collaboration, EKSU could achieve even greater heights in the future.
