Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has initiated legal proceedings against Turkish journalist Tolga Bozduman, accusing him of defamation over allegations of assault. The hearing for the case is set to commence today.

The controversy arose after Bozduman claimed that Osimhen assaulted him at an African restaurant two weeks ago. According to the journalist, the incident occurred after Galatasaray's 3-3 draw with Dynamo Kyiv when he attempted to take pictures of the football star.

Osimhen, who has been a standout performer for Galatasaray this season with 16 goals and five assists in 21 appearances across the Turkish Super Lig and UEFA Europa League, has strongly denied the allegations.

In a video quoted by Pesindeyiz Galatasaray, Osimhen refuted the claims, stating, “I didn’t hit the journalists; they are lying. Why are you flashing your face? You have to ask permission for an interview. I told them to delete my photos. If I wanted to hit them, I would have.”

Radio host Buchi Laba, of Wazobia FM, confirmed that Osimhen is pursuing legal action against Bozduman. According to Laba, Osimhen asserted, “If I hit him, he’s going to get justice, and if he lied, he’s going to face the wrath of the law.”

Osimhen’s legal action has sparked widespread attention, with many fans supporting the striker's decision to defend his reputation amidst the allegations.
